Dr. Sears’ L.E.A.N. Programs®
The L.E.A.N. Programs® are a family of workshops developed by “America’s Pediatrician” Dr. William Sears and Exercise Physiologist, Sean Foy, MA. These educational programs utilize Dr. Sears’ simple techniques for parents and children in making nutrition fun, tasty, and easy to understand and implement. Additionally, Dr. Sears and Mr. Foy provide creative ways for children to get the proper amount of exercise. By adopting a healthy lifestyle, a child’s learning, behavior, happiness, performance, and attitude are positively impacted.
The L.E.A.N. Program® was first successfully implemented in 2003 with hundreds of children through numerous Boys & Girls Clubs and along with others. Since then the program has grown with a focus on educating parents and bringing to life the much of the information contained in the LEAN Kids book by William Sears, MD and Sean Foy, MA, as well as the popular The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood book written by the Sears family of doctors.
Understanding the important role parents play in making the positive changes for a child by creating a healthy environment, the L.E.A.N. Start Program was developed and refined over several years with the purpose of educating parents and providing them tools to implement with their children. Since its introduction in 2007, over 1,200 parents have participated in the learning workshops where the clinical data from the program shows statistically significant behavioral changes for the parents and children. These outstanding results are thought to exceed those of any program taught directly to children.
The L.E.A.N. Start Program consists of six (6) hours of class time that focuses on the nutrition and exercise needs of 3 to 12 year olds. Currently the average L.E.A.N. Start class size is 10 to 20 persons. The L.E.A.N. Essentials introductory class is now available for teaching the fundamentals of L.E.A.N. in a 2 hour course. The average class size for L.E.A.N. Essentials is 6 to 20 persons. Class sizes are at the discretion of the Certified L.E.A.N. Coach.
Additional L.E.A.N. Programs are currently in development with the first program projected to be released in early 2009. Programs will be made available to Certified L.E.A.N. Coaches via web-based training. These include:
